Rising seas are destroying our beaches, while extreme weather threatens homes and businesses with more blackouts. Ben will redirect fossil fuel subsidies into renewable energy, creating local jobs while protecting our communities. Smart climate action means lower power bills, more jobs, and a secure future for our peninsula.
The Mornington Peninsula is already feeling the impacts of climate change. Beach boxes are being destroyed by storm surges. More frequent extreme weather events are disrupting power supplies and damaging roads. Wineries and farmers are struggling with unpredictable growing conditions. And rising insurance premiums are hitting household budgets.
Common sense climate action doesn’t need to be full of ideological rhetoric. We can do our bit for the environment, while also creating local jobs in renewable energy installation and management. We can lower emissions while also lowering household energy bills and ending our reliance on the big power companies. We know that our climate is important for local agriculture and tourism to thrive.
While the major parties can’t get it together on climate, Ben will work to make commonsense progress:
-
Making massive fossil fuel companies pay their fair share so that we can support local businesses and homes to transition to renewables
-
Training programs for renewable energy jobs in our region
- Funding to help remediate and repair damage from erosion and storm
"This isn't about choosing between the environment and the economy - it's about protecting both," says Ben. "Our peninsula's future depends on taking sensible action now. As your independent voice in Parliament, I'll fight for climate solutions that work for our community, create local jobs, and protect our way of life for future generations."
