Peninsula residents pay far too much for power while energy giants rake in billions. Our community faces the double burden of high costs and vulnerability to blackouts during storms and extreme weather – problems that will only worsen as climate impacts increase.
I regularly meet families choosing between heating their homes and buying groceries, small businesses where energy costs threaten their viability, and seniors afraid to use essential appliances because of bill shock. Meanwhile, Australia exports vast amounts of gas while charging citizens premium prices for our own resources.
There is no simple solution but I will push for the following solutions:
- A Peninsula Battery Initiative to help households store solar energy and reduce grid reliance along with incentives for landlords to adopt a higher rate of solar to make sure everyone is brought along
- A National Gas Reservation Policy similar to Western Australia's successful model that has kept prices 50% lower than eastern states
- Strong ACCC powers to prevent price gouging by retailers.

I'll also champion community energy projects and microgrids that improve local resilience during outages.
Energy isn't a luxury – it's essential infrastructure, and I'll ensure Peninsula residents get a fair deal rather than being exploited by corporate giants.
