Our Peninsula faces a unique housing crisis: essential workers commute hours each day because they can't afford local housing. Teachers, nurses, retail workers, and young families are being priced out of the neighbourhoods they grew up in - threatening the very fabric of our community.
At the Community Support Centre, I've worked with families sleeping in cars, seniors facing eviction after decades in the same home, and small business owners who can't find staff because there's nowhere affordable to live. This isn't just about housing – it's about our character.
I'll champion partnerships between all levels of government to create housing solutions that preserve our Peninsula's character while ensuring locals can afford to live where they work. This will look like:
- Increased funding for affordable housing, better-targeted Commonwealth rent assistance, and less red tape for new housing in appropriate areas with good infrastructure and amenities.
- Tax incentives for dedicated support for essential worker housing.
- I’ll continue my advocacy for additional housing and homelessness support service funding to assist those living through crisis
- Creating a National Housing and Homelessness Plan - something neither major party has done in over a decade.
